Although there is evidence that vitamin D deficiency relates to expression of chronic disease, relationship between vitamin D and cardiovascular disease predictors have not been clearly demonstrated in Korean. Our objective was to assess the correlation between vitamin D and the cardiovascular and inflammatory markers in overweight and obese people who had not been exposed to a particular disease.
Hyperlipidemia and hyperhomocysteinemia are regarded as major risk factors for cardiovascular disease. Medical nutrition therapy (MNT), which involves a combination of nutritional diagnosis, therapy, and counseling for at-risk patients, has been proposed as a protocol to control these risk factors. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of an intensive MNT, specifically tailored to Korean hyperlipidemic patients, on levels of serum lipids and plasma homocysteine.
An anti-inflammatory diet has many beneficial effects on cardiometabolic diseases. Constitution type of traditional Korean medicine can predict cardiometabolic risk factors. We examined the relationship between vegetable consumption and the high-sensitive C-reactive protein (hs-CRP) level on cardiometabolic risk factors in Korean adults by constitution types.
This study aimed to determine the effects of resistance exercise and interval training on the visceral fat to skeletal muscle area, physical fitness, cognitive functions, and mental health in old women.
This study investigated the effects of regular nutrition consultations on reducing risk factors, including body mass index, body composition, blood pressure, blood lipid profile, blood glucose–related markers, and inflammatory factors for cardiovascular diseases.
Vitamin D deficiency is now a recognised problem affecting multiple physiological functions. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the effect of a single dose of vitamin D3 injection on the inflammatory, muscular damage, metabolic and cardiovascular responses to an acute bout of resistance exercise (RE) in vitamin D-deficient resistance-trained males.
Arterial stiffness is an independent predictor of cardiovascular risk and may contribute to reduced running capacity in humans. This study investigated the relationship between course record and arterial stiffness in marathoners who participated in the Seoul International Marathon in 2012.
The prevalence of gallstone disease is increasing in Korea. Gallstone disease and atherosclerosis share common risk factors. Ultrasonographic carotid intima-media thickness is an independent predictor of atherosclerosis. We measured the carotid intima-media thickness among men who had gallstones to establish the association between atherosclerosis and gallstones.
The aim of this study was to re-validate the changes in natural killer (NK) cell cytotoxicity and cytokines related to T cells after Sil-Q1 (SQ; silk peptide) supplementation in a larger pool of Korean adults with minimized daily dose of SQ and controlling seasonal influence compared to the previous study.
The present results indicate that activation of C-fibers in the median nerve generates BP-lowering effects in humans. Based on our clinical study, an optimized median nerve stimulator was built and combined with a wrist BP monitor for simultaneous BP measurements and median nerve stimulation.
